By 1973 legislation had been passed in all Australian States and Territories.Driver and Passenger deaths in Australia in 1974 were 363 less than 1970. 87,864 were injured in all road traffic accidents in Australia in 1969 – by 1980 this had decreased to 32,054. In 2018 Transport NSW produced a report examining young driver accident trends: 'Young drivers also had a large number of dangerous crashes, veering off course on a straight piece of road. Thus underlines the importance of never using a mobile phone while at the wheel and avoiding using the radio or heater controls, which can cause a driver to drift out of their lane.’.
