The ‘Road Trauma 2021 Statistical Summary’ published by BITRE* 26 May, 2022:  

‘The number of road deaths in Australia for 2021 was 1, 123’ – Victoria 232 (20.6 per cent), a 10 per cent increase compared with 2020.

In 2021 NSW reduced fatalities by 4.6 percent, Tas by 5.4, and Qld by 1.4.                                         

Increases Vic 10 percent, also WA 7.8 percent, S.A 6.5, and NT 12.9 

There were 39,598 hospitalised injuries in 2018 in Australia, (25.5 percent) who were hospitalised had a high threat to life injuries.

Also in 2018, 8307 hospitalised injuries of a total in Australia of the 39, 598 were:                                          

  • Drivers 14,240
  • Passengers 5,570
  • Pedestrians 2,665
  • Motorcyclist 8,624
  • Cyclist 6,960
